Non-fiction Anthology - Gay Men's Worst Dates
Lethe Press is looking for creative non-fiction essays, real-life stories, about gay men's worst date nights for a forthcoming humorous anthology tentatively entitled Check Please! The Worst Gay Dates Yet.
The cover art will be by the talented illustrator Reed Black (here is his working draft).
The book will be edited by one of the freshest and funniest Tweeters around: Ben Weller.
Ben is an "expiring" writer and journalist living in Brigthton, England and currently studying at the University of Sussex. This is his first foray into editing, but he has a lot of experience in terrible dates. He is a prolific tweeter: @BenWeller. His favourite writer is Ernest Hemingway, and he is a hopeless romantic.
We will be reading submissions from now until the end of October 2014. All submissions must be based on true experiences. All submissions must be hilarious, of course. We ask that writers use their real names as opposed to pseudonyms. All stories must involve, obviously, a gay man on a date with another man. While Lethe has never restricted the gender of authors in past submissions, we must insist you be a cis-gendered gay man to contribute to this book--don't be offended and don't try and bypass this rule by being sly. Permitted word count is 1,000 to 5,000 words. Payment is 1 cent a word, with a minimum payment of $20. Payment will be upon publication and contributors will receive two copies of the anthology (one to keep, the other to give a guy on the next date). No stories involving misogyny, please. No gay-bashing.
Stories should be sent as rtf files to email@example.com. The book will release in Summer of 2015 and contributors will be informed by December 15th if their story has been accepted. Ben may well make editorial recommendations to heighten the humor of an individual piece, so writers must be open to revision.
